Current Opportunities
Landscape Architect
HTPO has a terrific opportunity for an experienced Landscape Architect interested in a part time role of at least 20 hours per week to engage in both landscape design and management responsibilities. HTPO is a small but growing business located in Eden Prairie and manages a diverse portfolio of public and private projects.
In a typical week you may:
- Meet with clients and manage projects
- Design a conceptual site plan, grading plan, or planting plan
- Perform a tree identification survey
- Prepare a proposal
- Coordinate with leadership/management team
- Collaborate with civil engineering, surveying, and construction management departments
- Oversee landscape architecture focused work within the company
- Attend a networking event and pursue new client relationships
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in landscape architecture including park design, streetscape design, site design, planting plans, and vegetation identification knowledge
- Degree in landscape architecture or related field
- Professional Licensure in Minnesota for Landscape Architecture
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills, including InDesign, Photoshop, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation

Civil Engineer
HTPO has a terrific opportunity for a civil engineer interested in hands on work with a variety of public and private sector clients.
In a typical week you may:
- Provide analysis and design for engineering projects including resources analysis, computations, design drafting, team communications, scheduling, budgeting
- Play a key role in design and coordination of site development, transportation, drainage, and utility projects
- Communicate and meet with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials
- Provide mentorship and assistance for other engineers and staff and coordinate with other design team members on a consistent basis
- Develop client relationships and apply marketing strategies for business development
You need to have:
- 5+ years of experience in civil engineering design
- In-depth experience with Bentley CAD software including Power GEOPAK, InRoads, or OpenRoads Designer
- Experience with AutoCAD with in-depth Civil 3D experience a plus
- Degree in civil engineering and Professional Licensure in Minnesota
- Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Proven ability to develop technical specifications, construction estimates, and other project documents, including managing regulatory permits and applications
- Field observation experience and an understanding of construction

Graduate Engineer
Hansen Thorp Pellinen Olson, Inc. (HTPO) has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to provide civil engineering design and drafting for a wide variety of projects.
In a typical week you may:
- Research projects and prepare reports
- Prepare plans and specifications
- Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and permit applications
- Attend meetings and coordinate with project team members
- Assist with surveying or inspection needs during seasonal fluctuations
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited University
- Registration as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) desired
- Be self-motivated and able to work both individually and as a team member
- Good communication and organization skills
- Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information, communicate with employees, clients/contractors and the general public
- Experience with CADD software (AutoCAD and/or Microstation)

CAD Technician
Hansen Thorp Pellinen Olson, Inc. (HTPO) is looking for an experienced CAD Technician.
HTPO has a terrific opportunity for a CAD Technician who has experience or is interested in learning about surveying and mapping.
In a typical week you may:
- Coordinate with a high-quality team of surveyors and engineers
- Set-up drawings and work with survey field data
- Draft boundary and topographic surveys, plans and easement exhibits
- Assist with boundary and area computations
- Collect site research documents
- Request utility locates
- Prepare construction computations in AutoCAD for survey crews
Desired Qualifications:
- Five years of experience with AutoCAD or similar software. Experience with Civil 3D and MicroStation are a plus
- Strong math computation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Great organizational skills and attention to detail
- General knowledge of construction
- Ability to read plans

Survey Crew Chief
HTPO has an exciting new opportunity for a Survey Crew Chief. This is a full-time position with benefits, subject to a seasonal furlough.
In a typical week you may:
- Work independently and as part of a survey team
- Coordinate daily with project managers
- Perform Alta surveys, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction layout
- Communicate with client and contractors and provide positive client relations
- Read and interpret construction plans
- Manage field data, maintain field notes and files, review final drawings
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years of experience performing construction layout and land surveys or related activities
- Being self-motivated, and able to work both individually and as a crew member
- Good communication and organization skills with working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information.
- Acceptable driving record and valid Class D driver’s license
Desired Qualifications
- Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT), Professional Land Surveyor (PLS), or NSPS Certified Survey Technician Level I-III
- Experience with Leica GPS and Robotic Total Station
- AutoCAD, Civil 3D or MicroStation experience
Physical requirements include:
- Ability to work extended hours, including some weekends, to accommodate Contractor's schedule
- Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain conditions
- Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time.

Survey Field Technician
Hansen Thorp Pellinen Olson, Inc. (HTPO) is looking for a Survey Field Technician starting with the 2023 season. This is a full-time position with benefits, subject to seasonal furlough.
In a typical week you may:
- Assist crew chiefs with construction staking, quality control, contractor communications
- Manage electronic and written data
- Assist crew chiefs with field surveying, including boundary and topographic surveys, survey for designs, plats, CIC, etc.
- Assist with operation of equipment and instruments to measure, record, and calculate data
- Stock vehicles with survey supplies and equipment
You need to have:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to learn through on-the-job training
- Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information
- Acceptable driving record, ability to commute daily, and valid Class D driver’s license
Physical requirements include:
- Ability to work extended hours, including some weekends, to accommodate Contractor’s schedule
- Ability to travel, including some overnight stays, if needed
- Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain conditions
