Current Opportunities



HTPO has exciting opportunities for both entry level and experienced inspectors to provide field observation and construction management for grading, street, and utility construction projects beginning with the 2019 construction season. 

In a typical day, your responsibilities may include construction observation and reporting to ensure compliance with construction documents; communications with clients, engineers, and contractors; coordination with utility companies; quantity measurements and computations; preparation of pay requests; reviewing and tracking shop drawings; and maintaining/tracking construction schedules, as well as performing some surveying field work.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • One-year experience working in civil engineering, land surveying, or roads and/or utility construction
  • Self-motivated and able to work both individually and as a team member
  • Good organization skills
  • Excellent communication skills and working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information. Ability to communicate clearly with co-workers, employees, clients/contractors, the general public and to maintain routine written logs and simple records
  • Satisfactory driving record and valid Class D driver’s license

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Degree in civil engineering technology, civil engineering, construction management, or equivalent
  • MnDOT Certifications (Certified Construction Technician – Aggregate Production, Bituminous Streets, Concrete Field, Grading, and Base)
  • Univ. of Minn. Construction Site Management Certification

Physical requirements include:

  • Ability to work extended hours, including some weekends, to accommodate Contractor’s schedule
  • Ability to travel outside of metro area, including extended overnight stays, if needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain conditions
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time


Graduate Engineer (EIT)

Hansen Thorp Pellinen Olson, Inc. (HTPO) has an exciting opportunity for a civil engineering graduate to provide design and drafting for a wide variety of projects.

In a typical day, your responsibilities may include research, reports, computations, plan preparation, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, permit applications, field observation, meetings and coordination.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • B.S. Degree in civil engineering from an accredited University
  • Being self-motivated, and able to work both individually and as a team member
  • Good organization skills
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information, communicate with employees, clients/contractors and the general public
  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT)

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with CADD software (AutoCAD and/or Microstation)
  • Experience with Drainage Design
