HTPO's full service planning, design and construction team consists of civil engineers, land surveyors, landscape architects, construction managers, planners, client managers, drafting and administrative staff, along with solid leadership that has guided the company for nearly four decades.

Current Opportunities

Survey Crew Chief

Hansen Thorp Pellinen Olson, Inc. has a terrific opportunity for a Survey Crew Chief for a variety of projects including MnDOT Design-Build projects for the 2020/2021 construction season.

In a typical week you may:

  • Work independently and as part of a survey team
  • Perform boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction layouts
  • Communicate with client and contractors
  • Read and interpret plans
  • Manage field data, maintain field notes and files, review final drawings

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience with performing construction layout and land surveys or related activities
  • Being self-motivated, and able to work both individually and as a crew member
  • Good communication and organization skills
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information, communicate with employees, clients/contractors and the general public, and to maintain written logs and records
  • Acceptable driving record and valid Class D driver’s license

Desired Qualifications:

  • Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT), Professional Land Surveyor (PLS), or NSPS Certified Survey Technician Level I-III
  • Experience with Leica GPS and Robotic Total Station
  • AutoCAD, Civil 3D or MicroStation experience

Physical requirements include:

  • Ability to work extended hours, including some weekends, to accommodate Contractor's schedule
  • Ability to travel, including occasional overnight stays, if needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain conditions
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time.

Professional Land Surveyor

HTPO has a terrific opportunity for a land surveyor interested in future project management and leadership.

In a typical day you will:

  • Coordinate with clients, project managers and field crews.
  • Provide research, computations, and write legal descriptions
  • Prepare a variety of surveys for public and private sector clients
  • Provide technical expertise and quality control
  • Support field crews and provide assistance with field work

You need to have:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in land surveying
  • Degree in land surveying, civil engineering, or related field
  • Professional Licensure in Minnesota for Land Surveying or able to obtain within 1 year
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including AutoCAD and/or MicroStation

Water Resources Engineer

HTPO has a terrific opportunity for a civil engineer interested in providing water resources design and project management for a variety of public and private sector clients.

In a typical week you may:

  • Provide water resources analysis, design, computations, and permitting.
  • Manage water resource focused projects including preparing proposals, team communications, scheduling, budgeting, and client billing
  • Prepare studies and reports
  • Assist with general civil engineering design work and collaborate work with other multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Meet with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials.

You need to have:

  • Experience with both site development and public infrastructure projects.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in water resources design.
  • Degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Professional Licensure in Minnesota
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills including HydroCAD, P8, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Power Geopak
